Beowulf Book Three

Free Write Friday

Use this time to express yourself creatively.
Create a half page, double spaced free write or create an image/sketch that represents current ideas. 
If you are stuck, use the prompt below or refer to your writing territories.

Vocabulary: 

Word: Villain
Part of Speech: Noun
Dictionary Definition:(in a film, novel, or play) a character whose evil actions or motives are important to the plot.
Activity: Explain how Grendel is an example of a villain. 

Activity: 

1.  Beowulf Book Two Discussion

Select two images that stand out to you.  You should have an image for each of the following: The Hero
    The Villain 

 On the back of an index card, explain how it represents that archetype, why it is represented the way it is, and  why you selected the images.

Organize yourselves into groups of three. 
Divide the yourselves into groups of three, labeling one student A, one B, and the other C in each group. Invite the A students share their image to their group. Then students B and C discuss the image. What do they think it means? Why do they think these cellss might be important? To whom? After several minutes, ask the A students to read the back of their card (or to explain what they think it means and why they picked it), thus having “the last word.” This process continues with the B students sharing and then the C students.


In groups of 2-3 people read the last book of the graphic novel.

3.  Book Three Discussion

Individually,  create an open ended question that relates to the text.
It can be from any part of the graphic novel.
The question should focus one of the following:
authors choice, situational/character archetypes, theme, perspective, or world connections.

We will hold a class discussion based on these questions.

What is one thing you have learned about archetypes from reading Beowulf?
