Beowulf Book Two

Starter: 

Make a connection between Beowulf and a modern day hero.
What characteristics do they share?
Explain how they are different.

Activity: 

1.  Beowulf Discussion

Create small groups of four people.
Each person in the group should number off 1-4.
Depending on the number you receive, you will answer the corresponding question.
You will then share your response with your group.

Discussion Questions
1.  What is the purpose of the prologue?
2.  How does the author establish the conflict?
3.  How does the author create the protagonist and antagonist?
4. Why does the author choose to include paragraphs at the beginning and end book one with just visuals?

2.  Gallery Walk

We will have a gallery walk based on book one. 
For at least THREE people, answer the HOT question posed by your peer. 

3.  Beowulf Book Two 

In groups of 2-3 people read through all of  book two.

Select two images that stand out to you.  You should have an image for each of the following: The Hero
    The Villain 

 On the back of an index card, explain how it represents that archetype, why it is represented the way it is, and  why you selected the images.

Closure

How does book two compare to chapters XX and XXI.
Identify one similarity and one difference.
